Al and Gretchen Beatty of BT's Fly Fishing are hosting Fly Tying Fridays-- a Zoom get-together to watch and learn some new fly tying techniques. These sessions will be held through March in into April. See BVFF calendar for these events.
Bullet Heads Made EZY: This week we’ll explore 3 methods we use to produce good-looking bullet heads. We think you’ll find at least one of them will serve you well no matter your skill level. Your success is selecting the right hair and we will help. BUT THAT’s NOT ALL! We’ll also go in-depth with furled bodies – single, double, triple, and mixed.
Materials Needed: Deer or elk body hair, hooks, thread (6/0 or 3/0), Poly yarn for furled extended bodies, optional squirrel-tail hair, and rubber leg material.
Bullet Head Stonefly
- Hook: Dry, 1XL- 3XL, size 12 – 6
- Thread: Orange (color of choice & size)
- Extended body: Orange Poly Yarn (choice)
- Wings: Deer, elk, or squirrel hair
- Bullet head: Spun/flared deer or elk hair
- Legs: Rubber leg material
- Head/collar: Orange thread
