Soft Hackles Made Easy
On Friday, 29 October 2021, we’ll get to enjoy the presentations of two excellent Zoom presenters, Kathie Burns and John Kreft. After they’ve demonstrated their soft-hackle patterns, we’ll end the evening with another “TYING TIP.” It will be the last in the series of melted monofilament eyes and we’ll actually use the featured material to tie one of our favorite soft hackle patterns and yes, it will have melted-mono eyes. Where did we find this last GREAT material? You probably have it somewhere in your home and like us, didn’t realize what a great material it was until discovering it in the ****??? Orange Partridge Soft Hackle
(Kathie Burns)
- Hook: Size 10 – 18, 1x long nymph
- Thread: Orange
- Rib: Fine gold wire
- Body: Orange floss
- Thorax: Hare’s mask dubbing (or your choice of dubbing)
- Hackle: Partridge
- Head: Thread
RiverKeeper Soft Hackle Cripple
(John Kreft)
- Hook: Size 8 – 20, 1-x long dry fly
- Thread: Match the body color
- Body: Superfine dubbing to match the natural insect’s body
- Thorax: Zelon, similar in color to the natural insect’s wing
- Hackle: Mallard covert feather
- Head: Thread
The Weekly Tip:
Since sharing truck mud flap material for melting monofilament eyes a couple of weeks ago, we found another great source for really small mono eyes in our ***???. We’ll discuss it at length this Friday and even use it on a fly.
