VICE/BVFF Boise River Spring Cleanup #2

This is a joint river cleanup effort between BVFF, VICE Outdoors and the Snake River Water Keepers. Please note that the date of the cleanup has been moved up from March 30th to March 16th to avoid anticipated increases in Boise River Flows.

WHAT: VICE Outdoors is partnering with Boise Valley Fly Fishers on a second spring cleanup location behind Expo Idaho and the old Les Bois racetrack.  This cleanup will focus on the river and side channels. The side channels are dry now, but have water in the summer.   If we have enough volunteers we will also check the homeless site on the little island at the end of 50th street for trash that is in the water.

DATE: Saturday, March 16, 2024

TIME: Meet at 9am MDT. Plan to finish by noon.

LOCATION:  Meet at the end of Remington Street, behind Expo Idaho. See Map.

DIRECTIONS: At the intersection of Chinden and Glenwood Street, head east on Chinden; At the first stoplight (by Fred Meyers) turn left (north) on N Kent Lane and then turn right at Westy's Bowling.  Take your first left and stay left on Remington and drive to the end of the street where there is a dirt parking lot.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Waders are not required by everyone BUT We do need as many people as possible to wear waders and enter the water for trash in the river.
  • Your safety and well-being come first. If you are getting into the river please bring a wading staff. River flows are expected to be low, but could rise and impact our ability to get into the river.
  • Weather could be cold and wet so come prepared
  • Please register to receive updated information.
  • Plan to get together with a few members to fish afterward. Nymphing is usually good this time of year; streamers are also a good option.
  • BVFF supplies tools, but if you have and are willing to bring any type of trash picker and/or a claw-cultivator type garden tool for pulling trash out of hard to reach places, please bring them along (more tools = more trash!)
